For single-line lubrication systems

The gear pump, in operation, provides a continuous supply of lubricant to the metering devices, followed by a lubrication cycle through the main pipeline. When the metering devices are full, excess lubricant is directed back to the reservoir through a safety valve. When the pump stops operating, the relief valve opens. The pressure in the main pipeline drops to a residual pressure of 0.2 to 1.0 bar (from 2.9 to 14.5 psi), which allows the spring-loaded pistons of the metering device to supply lubricant from the metering chambers to the lubrication points.
