OLA oil-air lubrication unit

For oil-air lubrication systems

To ensure highly efficient and long-lasting service of machine tool spindle assemblies, SKF has developed oil-air lubrication systems. These systems provide a constant supply of precise oil volumes, with the ability to adjust dosage and cycles to suit operating conditions.

A sequential or single-line metering device delivers a predetermined amount of lubricant to a mixing valve. Then, under the influence of an air flow, the lubricant is delivered to the lubrication point in intermittent jets through an auxiliary line. As a result, an oil-air mixture is continuously supplied to the bearing or chain. The air flow creates positive pressure in the bearing assembly, preventing the penetration of contaminants. This lubrication method typically does not produce oil mist.

Oil flow continuity sensors continuously monitor the oil flow in the auxiliary line. Oil-air lubrication units can be individually configured for each application.

Technical characteristics and advantages

  • Improved machining performance when lubricating spindle bearings thanks to higher speed parameters (for spindle bearings – up to 2.5 × 106 mm × rpm)
  • Increased reliability thanks to the continuous supply of a predetermined amount of lubricant. The air supplied by the system protects the bearings from external contaminants.
  • Reduced lubricant consumption thanks to the minimum required quantity principle contributes to improved safety and environmental protection. Controlled dosing for each lubrication point allows for savings of approximately 90 liters of lubricant compared to oil lubrication.
  • No oil mist, no need to refill with grease as with plastic grease lubrication

Application areas

  • Lubrication of spindle bearings
  • Chain lubrication
  • Lubrication of gears
  • Lubrication of guides
  • Lubrication of assembly and process devices
