Cylinder lubrication system for diesel engines
On large-sized four-stroke engines with a cylinder bore diameter of 250–640 mm (9–25 inches) Lubrication of the intake valve seat is recommended to reduce seat wear. Additional cylinder lubrication is optional. Using SKF lubricants can extend the service life of the cylinder liner and piston and extend the service intervals between overhauls.
Large two-stroke crosshead diesel engines with bore diameters of 300–960 mm (11–38 inches), Cylinder oil systems used on container ships, oil tankers, and bulk carriers require significant quantities of lubricating oil. This results in high operating costs and emissions. To address this issue, SKF offers the SKF CLU4 and CLU5 electronically controlled cylinder lubrication systems. These units provide a load-dependent flow rate of lubricating oil to the cylinder piston, independent of changes in temperature and viscosity.
Advantages
- Reduces cylinder oil consumption by 30 percent
- Minimizes CO2 and particulate emissions
- Allows servicing of the lubrication system while the engine is running
- Complies with the highest fire safety standards
Application areas
- Four-stroke engines and two-stroke crosshead engines on ships
Cylinder lubrication systems can reduce oil consumption by 30–50 %.
