Dual-line lubrication systems

For use in large equipment and harsh conditions

Dual-line systems provide precisely metered volumes of lubricant to up to 2,000 lubrication points over long distances of up to 120 m. (131 yards) and more. Even if a pair of outlets within a single metering device becomes blocked, dual-line systems ensure sufficient lubricant flow to the remaining lubrication points. Lubricant volume can be individually metered for each pair of outlets with visual or electronic monitoring.

Advantages

  • Flexibility - easy to design, expandable or resizable
  • Reliability – precisely dosed volumes of lubricant, up to 2000 lubrication points over long distances of up to 120 m (131 yards)
  • Various areas of application
  • Effective operation in difficult conditions with potentially high back pressure at lubrication points, contaminated, humid environments and low temperatures

Application areas

  • Heavy industry
  • Metallurgical enterprises
  • Pulp and paper production
  • Mining and mineral processing industry
  • Electric power industry
  • Cement plants

Operating principle

Description

These systems use two main pipelines into which lubricant is alternately supplied at a pressure of up to 400 bar using a high-pressure pump through a changeover valve. (5800 psi). Main pipelines and branch lines are connected to dual-line metering devices, through which large volumes of lubricant are delivered to lubrication points. Control and monitoring of large dual-line systems is accomplished using limit pressure switches.

These simple-to-design, universal systems can be easily scaled up or down by adding or removing metering devices. No system redesign is required. Installing sequential metering devices after dual-line metering devices increases the total number of lubrication points, delivering small volumes of lubricant.

Dual-line systems operate in two half-cycles. In the first half-cycle, lubricant is directed into the main line (A), with the main line (B) connected to a pressure relief line. The lubricant is directed by a switching valve into the metering devices. The pistons in the metering devices move to their end positions, dispensing the metered volume of lubricant.

After distributing the lubricant, the system hydraulically closes, causing the pressure in the main line (A) to rise to the preset value set at the limit pressure switch (installed on the main lines before the last metering device). This pressure switch sends a signal to the control unit, which shuts off the pump and commands the changeover valve to relieve pressure in the main line (A), thus beginning the shutdown timer. At this point, half of the lubrication points in the system have already been supplied with lubricant.

In the second half-cycle, pressure is built up in the main pipeline (B) and the cycle continues.
